On 25 October, the 28th Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The theme of the conference was "Library Service Impacts on Community: Sustainability, Inclusion and Innovation. On the invitation, Xiong Yuanming, Director of the National Library of China (NLC), attended the conference online, and made a report named "Library Service Innovation in the New Era". Chen Ying, Deputy Director of the NLC, also attended the conference online.
Combined with the exploration and practice of Chinese library community, Xiong Yuanming shared his ideas on "Library Service Reform and Innovation" from three aspects, i.e. "embracing modern technology and reconstructing library space", "strengthening core advantages and enhancing knowledge service ability", "actively connecting society and promoting sustainable development".
Xiong Yuanming said that Chinese library community would actively respond to IFLA Initiative on Libraries and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, give full play to the professional value of libraries, continuously innovate service mode, enrich service supply, provide high quality knowledge information services for the public, and build "people-centered" libraries. At the same time, relying on cooperation mechanisms such as the Conference of National Library Directors in Asia and Oceania, the NLC would continue to strengthen communication and exchanges with libraries of other countries and jointly promote the innovative development of global library services.
The conference was organized by the National Library of Indonesia and was held both offline and online. Vicki McDonald, IFLA President-elect, and representatives from 27 national libraries, including China, Indonesia, Iran, Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, Qatar, and so on, attended the conference and had in-depth exchanges on the theme of the conference.
