On 27 August, the unveiling and apprenticeship ceremony of the National Museum Training Institute under the National Center for the Inheritance of National-level Ancient Book Restoration Techniques was held at the National Museum of China (NMC).

Luo Wenli, Director of the NMC, and Chen Ying, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the NLC and Deputy Director of the NLC, attended the ceremony and jointly unveiled the National Museum Training Institute. Lou Wei, Deputy Director of the NMC, and Wei Chong, Deputy Director of the NLC, were present and delivered speeches. The ceremony was presided over by Wang Lizhi, Director of the NMC Conservation Institute.

Based on the rich collection resources of the NMC, the National Museum Training Institute adopts a dual-mentor system. It invites Mr. Xu Jianhua, a senior expert in ancient book and painting restoration at the Palace Museum‌ and national intangible cultural heritage representative inheritor of mounting and restoration techniques, and Mr. Hu Bo, Leader of Documents Restoration Section of the NLC Ancient Books Library and National Technical Expert, as its training mentors. Relying on the hardware, software facilities and talent team of the NMC Conservation Institute, the Training Institute will closely integrate its daily operations with those of the National Center for Ancient Book Restoration, and establish the core mission of “building on craftsmanship inheritance and featuring integration of science and technology”. Through the training program, it will aim to cultivate versatile professional backbones, so as to better serve the full-chain needs of the NMC in risk prevention and control, conservation and restoration, value research, resource management and activation and utilization of paper-based cultural relics. Meanwhile, leveraging the platform advantage of the Cultural Relics Restoration Talent Improvement Base of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, it will work closely with the National Center for Preservation and Conservation of Ancient Books, jointly hold training courses on the conservation and restoration of paper-based cultural relics in due course, striving to contribute the strength of the NMC to the training of cultural heritage conservation professionals across the museum community.
