On 6 September, the National Library of China (China National Center for Preservation & Conservation of Ancient Books) held the  9th joint press conference on digital resources of ancient books. 12 ancient book collection institutions jointly released a new batch of digital resources to the society and the public. It was one of the series of activities celebrating the 115th anniversary of the establishment of the National Library of China (NLC), aiming to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping’s culture thoughts and the spirits of important conferences such as the National Conference on Propaganda, Ideology and Culture, and to implement the spirits of General Secretary Xi Jinping's reply to the NLC’s senior experts.

At the press conference, 12 institutions, including the NLC, Shandong University Library, Yunnan Provincial Planning Office for the Compilation and Publication of Ethnic Minority Ancient Books, Nanjing Library, Yunnan Provincial Library, Hainan Provincial Library, Chengdu Library, Dezhou Library, Chongqing Beibei Library, Jining Library, Luzhou Library, Wenzhou Library, etc., released 7085 items/pieces of ancient book resources. After the release of these resources, the total number of image resources of ancient books and special collections published nationwide amounted to 139,000. Among them, the "Chinese Ancient Books Resource Database" constructed by the NLC had 26 featured resource databases, with over 105000 items/pieces of ancient books images published, and more than 34,000 items/pieces of ancient book resources published by 44 institutions.

At the symposium held simultaneously, representatives from the publishing institutions introduced the characteristics and value of the resources released this time. The attending guests highly affirmed and evaluated the initiative of jointly releasing digital resources of ancient books. They also conducted in-depth exchanges on issues such as the construction and cooperation service mechanism of ancient book digital resources, the sharing methods of digitalization achievements of ancient books, standards and norms for the digitalization of ancient books, and the construction of smart libraries, providing important guidance and valuable suggestions for the related work in the next step.
