On 20 August, the launching ceremony of the second phase of the public welfare project for ancient books preservation and utilization, which was jointly carried out by China Foundation For Cultural Heritage Conservation, National Library of China (NLC) and ByteDance, was held in the NLC. The activity aimed to further promote the active participation of social forces, strengthen the preservation, research and utilization of cultural relics and ancient books, and inherit and promote excellent traditional Chinese culture.
At the event site, representatives of China Foundation For Cultural Heritage Conservation, the NLC and ByteDance signed the Memorandum of Cooperation on the Second Phase of the Public Welfare Project for the Preservation and Utilization of Ancient Books. At the same time, the Collection of Achievements of the Public Welfare Project for the Preservation and Utilization of Ancient Books of "China Foundation For Cultural Heritage Conservation and ByteDance Special Fund for the Preservation of Ancient Books”was issued.
The second phase of the project will focus on restoring the earliest existing versions of Yuan Dynasty's Sanshanjunxiang engraved edition "Tongzhi", Beijing version of the Tibetan "Tripitaka Ganzhuer", important collections such as maps, epigraphs and rubbings collected in the NLC, as well as newly discovered Dunhuang documents collected by the Library of Shaanxi Normal University. At the same time, the second phase of the project will further expand its support scope, and solicit ancient book restoration projects in the nationwide to assist local ancient book collection institutions in carrying out restoration work; We will also support the cultivation of talents for the restoration of ancient books in languages of ethnic minorities; We will launch public fundraising projects on the restoration of ancient books, talent cultivation, revitalization and utilization, etc., to cultivate and attract more people to participate in the preservation and restoration of ancient books.
