From 5 December to 6 December, the Fifth China-Arab Library and Information Science Professionals Conference was held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The conference was co-sponsored by the National Library of China (NLC) and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States, and organized by Saudi Arabia King Abdul Aziz Public Library. About 40 library directors, experts and officials from 12 Chinese institutions, 10 Arab States and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States attended the conference.
The theme of this conference was "The Transformation of Library Services under the Change of Information Environment". Zhang Jun, Deputy Director of the NLC, gave a keynote speech named "Striving to Promote the Cooperation between China and Arab Libraries to a New Level". Representatives from Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan and other countries discussed the mission of libraries and the cooperation and development in the information field, laying a solid foundation for future innovation and cooperation between China and Arab countries in the field of technology application.
