The "Spring Rain Project • Online Book Fragrance" Digital Reading Promotion Activity is held in Habahe County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

From September 25 to 28, the "Spring Rain Project • Online Book Fragrance" digital reading promotion activity jointly organized by the National Library of China (NLC)and the provincial library of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was held in Habahe County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang. Leaders from the Digital Resources Department, the Stack Management & Reading Services Department, and the Office of the Compilation of Hundred Classics on Chinese Traditional Culture of the NLC jointly led the NLC Volunteer Service Team to carry out a series of public cultural activities in the local area. Officials from the provincial library of Xinjiang, Altay Regional Cultural, Sports, Radio, Television, and Tourism Bureau, Altay Regional Library, Habahe County Cultural, Sports, Radio, Television, and Tourism Bureau, and Habahe County Library attended the event. The event attracted over 400 audience.

During the event, representatives of the NLC donated 1,500 digital resource reading cards to the Altay Regional Library, Habahe County Library, and Burqin County Library, further enriching the digital collections of local libraries and expanding the access scope of digital reading resources for the grassroots. They also donated one set of the "One Hundred Classics on Chinese Traditional Culture" series to the libraries of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Habahe County respectively, to enrich the physical collections of local libraries and nourish readers with excellent traditional culture. Previously, the NLC had donated 5,000 books to the Altay region through the "Literature Sharing and Circulation Program". On site, the provincial library of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region also donated 1,000 books to the Habahe Library.

 

Based on the WeChat mini program of "Online Book Fragrance • Enjoying Beauty from Reading" of the NLC, digital resources of 8 themes are selected, including classic ancient books, traditional culture, S&T and nature, culture and tourism, and reading among the juveniles. An exhibition of reading resources accessed from scanning QR code was held at the Habahe County Sports Center, on-site visitors can enjoy digital reading through visits and scanning QR code. The mini program has also launched a special page for the event and interactive reader activities simultaneously, further expanding the scope of digital reading for readers, enhancing their enthusiasm, and helping readers across Xinjiang to access more digital resources.

 

The "mobile study" outdoor reading club is organized at the outdoor square, where physical books of various themes, desks and check-in message boards are placed, attracting a large number of people to come and read, and engage in the activity.

 

 

Zhang Jie, Director of the Office of the Compilation of Hundred Classics on Chinese Traditional Culture, provided a special lecture on "A Guide to the Hundred Classics on Traditional Chinese Culture" to on-site readers, bringingthe cultural classics to the grassroots, and allowing them to feel the charm of traditional culture.

 

The "Spring Rain Project" is carried out simultaneously in the libraries of the Altay region, military district and Burqin, further expanding its coverage among the grassroots in the Altay region.

 

The "Spring Rain Project • Online Book Fragrance" digital reading promotion activity is not only an important measure for the NLC to implement the principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the Central Conference on Ethnic Affairs, but also a concrete action in response to the requirements of the "Spring Rain Project—Implementation Plan for Cultural and Tourism Volunteer Service in Border Areas" issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Ethnic Affairs Commission of the People's Republic of China, which is to lay a solid foundation for the NLC to continue to provide cultural and tourism volunteer services in supporting cultural construction and tourism development in border and ethnic areas.

 

In the future, the NLC will rely on the construction project of the National Smart Library System, work with provincial-level libraries nationwide on relevant businesses, continue to enhance the recognition and popularity of the "Spring Rain Project • Online Book Fragrance" series activities, continue to innovate and expand the form and content of cultural volunteer services, and promote the flow of high-quality cultural and tourism resources to border and ethnic areas through volunteer and public welfare activities, so as to boost the high-quality development of regional culture and tourism, and promote extensive interactions, comprehensive exchanges, and deep integration among various ethnic groups.
