On October 26th and 27th, the 14th Conference on Cooperative Development and Sharing of Chinese Resources (Online), organized by the National Library of China (NLC), was held in the form of online video conference. Xiong Yuanming, Director of the NLC, Kong Lun, Second-tier Inspector of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Zhang Zhiqing, Executive Deputy Director of the NLC, Chen Ying, Deputy Director of the NLC, more than 30 directors and experts from institutions of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and foreign countries, such as Hong Kong Central Library, University of Hong Kong Library, Department of Public Library Management, Macau Library and Information Management Association, University of Macau Library, Taiwan Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard-Yenching Library, as well as over 50 domestic directors and experts from provincial public libraries, professional libraries, university libraries and other academic institutions, attended the conference. The theme of the conference was "Integration with 'Intelligence', Empowerment through Innovation—Cooperative Development and Sharing of Literature Resources in the Smart Environment".
Xiong Yuanming delivered a keynote speech at the conference, introducing the major achievements and experiences of global practice in the cooperative development and sharing of Chinese resources in recent years, the new context and challenges faced, and how to adopt smart techniques to further strengthen the cooperative development and sharing of Chinese resources. At the same time, the NLC expects to further strengthen exchanges and communication with other institutions in the future, constantly improve cooperation mechanisms, expand cooperation scope, enrich cooperation content, and share the achievements and experiences among all parties, so as to further promote the dissemination and sharing of Chinese resources worldwide, and jointly make new and greater contributions to the inheritance and promotion of excellent Chinese culture, stimulate the vitality of the Chinese civilization, and promote the exchange and mutual learning between the Chinese culture and diverse cultures around the world.
With the rapid development of new generation information technology and the progress of the national smart library construction project, it has become the mission of the times for Chinese literature institutions to seize opportunities and meet new challenges by making good use of new technologies, improve service capabilities and levels through cooperative construction and sharing, and promote the dissemination and sharing of Chinese culture in the world. The theme of the conference is divided into three sub-themes, namely "Development of Characteristic Literature Resources and Local Cultural Inheritance", "Development of Data Resources and Knowledge Exchange Services" and "Digital Protection and Utilization of Chinese Ancient Books". In the form of reports and discussion, attendees conducted in-depth exchanges on the cooperative development and sharing of resources in various regions, drew on the advanced ideas and experiences of each other, and reached further agreement.
The Conference on Cooperative Development and Sharing of Chinese Resources is an international event focusing on Chinese literature, aims at discussing the issue of cooperative development and sharing of cross-regional Chinese resources, and promoting communication and cooperation between libraries and institutions of Chinese collections worldwide. Since initiated by the NLC in 2000, the event has been held alternately by libraries from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. This is the second time in 22 years that the NLC holds the conference.
During the event, the "15th Council Meeting of the Conference on Cooperative Development and Sharing of Chinese Resources" was held to review the latest work and discuss future plans.
