Six individuals including Xiong Yuanming, Director of the NLC, are successfully elected to positions in the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions

On 1 May, the official website of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) announced the results of the 2023 IFLA staff election. Approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with the support from the library community, six individuals, including Xiong Yuanming, Director of the NLC and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the NLC, Chen Ying, Deputy Director of the NLC, Huo Ruijuan, Deputy Director of the NLC, and so on, were successfully elected to positions in the IFLA.

Among them, Xiong Yuanming was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the IFLA National Libraries Section; Chen Ying was elected as a member of the IFLA Asia and Oceania Division; Huo Ruijuan was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the IFLA Management and Marketing Section; Wang Yang, Director of the NLC Chinese Acquisitions & Cataloguing Department, was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the IFLA Cataloguing Section; Chen Hongyan, Director of the NLC Ancient Books Library, was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the IFLA Genealogy and Local History Section; Wang Yanhang, Secretary-general of Secretariat of the Library Society of China, was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the IFLA Management of Library Associations Section.

Up to present, there have been 15 individuals of the NLC selected to positions in different divisions or sections of the IFLA. It doesn’t only help the NLC better participate in IFLA affairs, but also enhances the influence and discourse power of the Chinese library community in IFLA.
