On 30 November, Xiong Yuanming, Director of the National Library of China (NLC), held a video conference with Yoshinaga Motonobu, Director General of the National Diet Library (NDL). Chen Ying, Deputy Director of the NLC, and Katayama Nobuko, Deputy Director of the NDL, attended the video conference as well.
Xiong Yuanming said that the two libraries had a history of more than 40 years of exchange and cooperation. The long-term friendly exchange had promoted mutual understanding and learning between the two libraries, promoted regional cooperation of library community, and set a good example of cooperation. He hoped that the two libraries would continue to work together to promote the common development of the librarianship of China and Japan in the spirit of mutual understanding, mutual respect and friendly consultation.
Yoshinaga Motonobu said that the business exchanges between the two libraries had a good tradition. Japan was willing to continue to promote the friendly exchanges between the two libraries and continue to share the latest development of library business through exchanges.
Relevant personnel of the two libraries continued their exchanges of last year, and held video business exchanges on the theme of "Development and Construction of Smart Libraries" again. Xie Qiang, Director of the NLC Digital Resource and Service Department & the NLC Information Technology Department, made a report entitled "Knowledge Construction of the NLC Digital Resources". Kimezawa Tsukasa, Deputy Director of the NDL Digital Information Department, made a report named "Exploiting new scenarios of library services through the digitization of library collections and the production of full-text OCR data and the outlook for the next step". Both libraries believed that intelligent transformation would become the main driving force for library innovation and development. The transformation would be a gradual long-term process. Both sides should further deepen exchanges and cooperation, and actively share the experience and achievements of smart library construction.
