On 9 September, on the occasion of the 111^th anniversary of the establishment of the National Library of China (NLC), the NLC held the staff meeting on the first anniversary of studying and implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's reply letter, focused on reviewing and summarizing the main achievements made in the past year under the guidance of the spirit of the General Secretary Xi Jinping's reply letter, commended the advanced collectives and individuals in 2019, and made work arrangement for the next stage. About 500 members attended the meeting, including the NLC leadership, representatives of various departments and divisions, and representatives of retired workers. Rao Quan, Director of the NLC and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the NLC, delivered a speech on behalf of the NLC leadership. Wei Dawei, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the NLC and Deputy Director of the NLC, hosted the meeting.

Rao Quan comprehensively summarized the outstanding achievements made by the NLC since 2019 on carrying forward the excellent traditional culture, serving the nationwide reading, improving the professional ability, leading the development of the library community and realizing cross-border cooperation, especially on ensuring the health and life safety of readers and employees, meeting the national and social needs for epidemic prevention and anti epidemic information, and ensuring the orderly progress of key work. He also analyzed the problems and shortcomings, and put forward the working ideas and specific requirements. Rao Quan put forward four hopes for the work in the second half of the year: we should keep in mind the overall situation and do our own jobs well, persist in learning and continuous innovation, and improve the entrepreneurial ability of the workers, adhere to the position and realize personal value in the development of the NLC librarianship, adhere to the correct political direction, and guard the two bottom lines of responsibility.

Rao Quan emphasized that on 8 September 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping replied to the eight senior experts in our library, which fully affirmed the positive roles played by the NLC in inheriting Chinese civilization, improving national quality and promoting economic and social development, pointed out the prominent role and important position of librarianship in national development, especially in cultural development, and put forward requirements for the NLC development. In August 2020, Hu Heping was appointed Secretary of CPC Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He inspected the NLC on site, and guided the future development of the NLC. We should thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's reply letter, and conscientiously implement the instructions and decisions of the leaders of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. We should further unify our ideas, build consensus and unite leaders and workers in the whole library so as to promote the high-quality transformation and development of the NLC librarianship.

At the meeting, the NLC leaders presented honorary certificates to the collective representatives and individuals who won the "Special Award for Librarian", "Advanced Collective", and "Service Pacesetter" in 2019, as well as commemorative medals and certificates to the staff who had worked in the library for 30 years to recognize their contributions to the development of the NLC librarianship.

In the special report section, the prize-winning representatives gave a presentation respectively according to their own practices. Their advanced deeds fully demonstrated the dedicated spirit of the NLC staff in different positions, and interpreted the long-term adherence of the NLC staff to the original mission of "Inheriting Civilization and Serving the Society".

Finally, Wei Dawei hoped that the library would adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping's socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics in the new era, thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 19^th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Plenary Sessions, thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's reply letter, and implement the instructions of Hu Heping, Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. We would continue to promote Party construction and development of various items of library work, run well the NLC, and make new and greater contributions to the construction of a socialist cultural power.
