On 27 October, 2020 UK-China Library Forum video conference, which was co-sponsored by the National Library of China (NLC), the Library Society of China (LSC), and the British Library (BL), was held. Chen Ying, Vice Chairman of the LSC and Deputy Director of the NLC, Jamie Andrews, Director of the Social Education Department of the BL, delivered a speech respectively on behalf of Chinese and British sides. More than 500 people from 11 public libraries in China, including Shanghai Library, Zhejiang Library, Guangzhou Library, Taiyuan Library, and local public libraries in Britain, attended the meeting.
Chen Ying said that COVID-19 aroused global attention in 2020. The Chinese and British library communities had taken positive and effective measures to make positive contributions to the prevention and control of the epidemic. Today, we held 2020 UK-China Library Forum video conference to share the new library formats under the situation of normalization of epidemic prevention and control, promote the exchange and mutual learning of anti epidemic experience, and promote the common development of librarianship of the two countries under special circumstances. She hoped that the cooperation between the Chinese and British library communities could be continued.
Jamie Andrews said that as the director of the Sino-British library cooperation project, it was a great honor to be able to promote the exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and British library communities in recent years. The great achievements made in the fields of digital resource sharing and exhibition cooperation were revolutionary to our work.
The meeting focused on such hot issues as "Response to the epidemic—solutions to the challenges" and "How to balance the walk-in services and digital services in the post epidemic environment". Zhou Deming, Deputy Director of Shanghai Library, made a report named "Expand online service and build O2O model—Practice of Shanghai Library under the epidemic prevention and control background". Guo Xinping, Director of Taiyuan Library, made a report named "More warm, active and creative library services—China's library practice under the epidemic prevention and control". Carol Stump, Kirklees Council Chief Librarian and President of Libraries Connected, made a report named "The service resumption of the British Library". After the reports, the participants actively participated in the online Q & A session.
