The world's first edition of Red Star Over China with the signature of Edgar Snow is collected by the NLC

On October 15, Mr. Liu Liqun donated 30 titles of 44 items of documents, including signature books, letters, manuscripts and related materials of Edgar Snow, Agnes Smedley, Anna Louise Strong, Helen Foster Snow, Salisbury Harrison Evans to the National Library of China (NLC). Rao Quan, Director of the NLC, accepted the donation and issued a donation certificate to the donor. Wang Xiaobin, President of China International Reportage Research Society, Liu Liqun's family members, and his friends Gu Pin'e and Gao Zhendong attended the donation ceremony. Zhang Zhiqing, Deputy Director of the NLC, presided over the donation ceremony.

Mr. Liu Liqun was the former associate researcher of the Institute of Journalism and Communication, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the fourth executive director of China Society for People's Friendship Studies. Now he was the consultant of Edgar Snow Research Centers in Shaanxi, Wuhan and Peking University, the Director of 5S+ Research Institute of China International Reportage Research Society. Over the years, he had devoted himself to collecting, researching and publicizing the works and signature books of international friends such as Edgar Snow, Agnes Smedley, Anna Louise Strong, Helen Foster Snow, and Salisbury Harrison Evans. The donated documents included the world's first edition of Red Star Over China, presented by Edgar Snow to Ha De Jin Sen (transliteration), Mayor of Coventry, the United Kingdom in 1947, The Battle for Asia, presented by Edgar Snow to Pu Ai'da, Director general of International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives in 1942, The Other Side of the River: Red China Today, presented by Edgar Snow to Anna Louise Strong for her 77th birthday in 1963, Edgar Snow's letters and manuscripts to Wang An'na, a German international friend.

In addition, entrusted by Mr. Shu Zhang, a 93-year-old senior research scholar on Edgar Snow, Mr. Liu Liqun donated 1 title of 1 volume book of Far Eastern Front with the signature of David Guest, a British Communist, which was of great significance for studying the international influence of Edgar Snow's Far Eastern Front.

The precious documents donated by Mr. Liu Liqun and Mr. Shu Zhang were collected in the NLC Celebrities' Manuscripts Depository, which collected manuscripts of modern politicians, thinkers, scientists, cultural celebrities and historical figures, as well as books with celebrities' signatures. Besides, the depository also collected Anna Louise Strong's manuscripts, notes, letters, materials, signature books, photos and other valuable documents. The NLC would continue to devote itself to collecting, protecting and studying the manuscripts of famous scholars from all walks of life, further exploring their intrinsic value, and playing an active role in promoting relevant research and protecting and inheriting the traditional Chinese culture.
