On 10 December, Rao Quan, Director of the National Library of China (NLC), held a video conference with William Macnaught, Director of the National Library of New Zealand (NLNZ), and Rachel Esson, the President Elect.

First, Rao Quan expressed his sincere greetings to Macnaught, Esson and colleagues of the NLNZ. He said that the NLC and the NLNZ had maintained close personnel exchanges for a long time. Both sides had learned from each other in library business construction, and carried out pragmatic cooperation in bilateral cooperation projects, international conferences, exhibitions and other fields, which effectively promoted their respective business development and promoted the mutual development of librarianships in the two countries. Rao Quan expressed his gratitude to Macnaught for his great contributions to promoting the cooperation between the two sides during his tenure in office, and hoped that under the leadership of Esson, the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides would continue to be deepened.

Macnaught expressed his thanks for Rao Quan's greetings. He said that the NLNZ had always been attaching great importance to exchanges and cooperation with the NLC. He expressed his gratitude to the Chinese colleagues for their efforts in promoting the cooperation between the two libraries during his tenure in office. He hoped that China could continue to support Esson's work and expand exchanges and cooperation between the two libraries. Esson said that the Asia-Pacific region was the focus of the NLNZ's exchanges and cooperation, and the NLNZ would continue to consolidate exchanges with the NLC and constantly expand new cooperation projects.

Both sides also exchanged views on the epidemic response measures, library services during normalized epidemic prevention and control period, online business exchanges, online exhibitions and other topics, and hoped that both side could take this video conference exchange as an opportunity to continuously expand cooperation between the two libraries.
