On 16 December, at the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China, the NLC won the award of "Top 10 China Documentary Promoters" in 2020 for its documentary National Library of China: An Oral History. This award was an important sub project of Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China, which was founded in 2013 to recognize the outstanding contributions to documentaries made by institutions and individuals from all walks of life. The institutions or individuals who had won the title of "documentary promoters" were not professional directors, producers or investors. However, they practiced the social responsibility of cultural transmission with high-quality documentary works in 2020, and provided experience and examples for the further development of the documentary industry.

For a long time, the NLC had been committed to the rescue and construction of oral history, as well as the production, collection and dissemination of documentaries. In 2019, the NLC celebrated its 110th anniversary. The NLC had specially produced a documentary named National Library of China: An Oral History, which showed the development of the NLC in the form of oral history of senior librarians. This was the first oral history documentary to show the development history of the NLC from the perspective of personal experience, and was also the first oral history documentary to record and show the development of Chinese librarianship.

After the birth of National Library of China: An Oral History, it was launched at 2019 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China for the first time. In the same year, the premiere was held in Beijing during the NLC Reader Service Week. In 2020, it appeared in Beijing Documentary Film Week, and seminar and screening activities were held meanwhile.

The success of National Library of China: An Oral History was a new starting point. The NLC would continue to devote itself to the production, collection and dissemination of documentaries. As the representative of modern audio-visual literature, documentary was known as "national album", which witnessed the development of the times and preserved the collective memory. In the future, the NLC would bring documentaries into the construction system of literature resources and the scope of public services, so as to better inherit civilization and serve the society.
