On 26 November, the press conference on the construction achievements of Chinese ancient book resources database and related ancient books conservation work was held in the National Library of China (NLC). Zhang Zhiqing, Deputy Director of the NLC, and Deputy Director of China National Center for Preservation & Conservation of Ancient Books, attended the conference.

At the conference, Zhang Zhiqing introduced that since "Chinese Ancient Books Preservation Plan" was implemented in 2007, the NLC and national ancient book preservation institutions had made main achievements on the general survey and registration of ancient books, the evaluation of the National Rare Ancient Book Directory and national key ancient books preservation and conservation institutions, restoration and photocopying of ancient books, preservation and restoration of ancient books in languages of ethnic minorities, the digitalization and Internet release of ancient books, and the training of ancient books talents. In particular, he introduced a series of measures and achievements taken by the NLC in the past two months to improve the user experience and service quality of Chinese ancient book resources database.

Zhang Zhiqing said the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core attached great importance to the inheritance of Chinese excellent traditional culture. Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party over the Past Century, which was adopted at the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19^th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, had stressed that "China's fine traditional culture is a prominent strength of our nation that enables us to gain a firm footing amidst global cultural interaction", and required that we should raised public awareness of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage, and stepped up preservation efforts. For the ancient books preservation work in the new era, we needed to do well top-level design, lay a solid foundation, promote the transformation and utilization of ancient books, and mobilize social forces to participate. He hoped that the media friends could give full play to their platform advantages, dig and integrate materials, do well the publicity and promotion of ancient books preservation, and jointly promote ancient books preservation work to a new level.

Sun Boyang, Director of the NLC General Office, Xie Qiang, Director of the NLC Digital Resource & Service Department, Li Chunming, Director of the NLC Information Technology Department, Wang Lei, Director of the NLC Microforms Department, Chen Hongyan, Deputy Director of the NLC Ancient Books Library, Su Pinhong, Director of Office of China National Center for Preservation & Conservation of Ancient Books, Wei Chong, President of the NLC Publishing House, and so on, introduced the construction and services of "Chinese ancient book resources database", talent training and reading services for ancient books conservation, ancient books microfilming and digitalization, ancient books collation and publication, and answered journalists' questions.

More than 30 journalists from CCTV, Xinhua news agency, Guangming Daily, People's Daily and so on attended the conference. After the conference, the news media journalists visited National Ancient Books Restoration Skills Competition & Ancient Books Conservation Achievements Exhibition, ancient book restoration room, Rare Book & Special Collections Reading Room, and so on.
