Xiong Yuanming, Director of the NLC, meets with Uruguayan Ambassador to China

On 23 February, Xiong Yuanming, Director of the National Library of China (NLC), met with Fernando Lugris, Uruguayan Ambassador to China, and his delegation, and received his donation. Chen Ying, Deputy Director of the NLC, also attended the meeting.

Xiong Yuanming extended welcome to Fernando Lugris, and thanked him for presenting Spanish books to the NLC again. Xiong Yuanming said that Uruguay was the first Mercosur country to sign "Belt and Road" Memorandum of Understanding with China. The book donation was a useful supplements to the foreign language collections of the NLC, providing more convenience for Chinese readers to understand Uruguay culture. It was also a historical witness of friendly exchanges between China and Uruguay. He hoped that the two countries would deepen exchanges in the field of libraries and further promote cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Fernando Lugris showed thanks for Xiong Yuanming's warm reception. He said that China and Uruguay had always been maintaining friendly strategic cooperative relations. They presented literature books to the NLC, hoping to promote cultural exchanges with literary exchanges. Next year would be the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay. He hoped to take this opportunity to promote the further development of bilateral relations between the two countries. As a member of the "Silk Road International Library Alliance", it was hoped that the National Library of Uruguay would participate in more activities of the alliance, and continue to expand the cooperation between libraries of the two countries in the future.

After the meeting, Fernando Lugris and his delegation visited the National Museum of Classic Books.
