The 17th Wenjin Book Award is announced

On 23 April, on the occasion of the 27th World Reading Day, the Special Activity of the NLC 4•23 World Reading Day, 2022 & the announcement of the 17th Wenjin Book Award was held in the NLC, which was sponsored by the NLC and the Library Society of China. Li Hong, Director of Public Service Department, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Xiong Yuanming, Director of the NLC and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the NLC, Wei Dawei, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the NLC and Deputy Director of the NLC, Zhang Zhiqing, Deputy Director of the NLC, Wang Dongbo, Deputy Director of the NLC, and Huo Ruijuan, Deputy Director of the NLC, attended the activity. More than 200 people attended the activity, including representatives of Wenjin Book Award judges, award-winning book authors (translators), and representatives of publishers and joint review institutions.

19 titles of award-winning books and 51 recommended books of the 17th Wenjin Book Award were announced at the event. The guests presented prizes to the award-winning authors and publishers. Lai Xuemei, Yang Xujie, and Zhuang Jian reviewed the selection of the 17th Wenjin Book Award in terms of children, popular science and social science. Zhang Xiao, Yu Tianyi and Luoxiang delivered a speech respectively on behalf of the award-winning authors.

Li Hong and Xiong Yuanming presented awards to representatives of award-winning authors and publishers of books in social sciences.

 

Wei Dawei and Zhang Zhiqing presented awards to representatives of award-winning authors and publishers of books in popular science.

 

Wang Dongbo and Huo Ruijuan presented awards to representatives of award-winning authors and publishers of children's books.

 

The day of 23 April marked the seventh anniversary of the National Library Open Course. Liu Jiaqi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a final evaluation judge of Wenjin Book Award, and Zhan Fuirui, Former Director of the NLC, Dean of School of Chinese Language and Literature, Beijing Foreign Studies University and award-winning author of Wenjin Book Award, were invited to give a keynote speech titled "Books are valuable spiritual food" and "Reading Li Bai" respectively.

At the event, the precious characteristic collections and innovative service initiatives of libraries all over the country were presented in the form of short films. Librarians' representatives all over the country sent invitations to all readers, "no matter who you are, no matter where you are, every library, every book in the library, and every librarian are waiting for you."

The event was broadcast on live by 18 platforms, including the People's Daily app, CCTV News app, Xinhua News Agency app, Guangming Daily app, China News app, Tiktok and so on, which aroused strong response in the whole society.

In order to cooperate with this activity, an exhibition of the award-winning books and recommended books of the 17th Wenjin Book Award was held in the NO. 7 Exhibition Hall of the National Museum of Classic Books and the Second Floor of the NLC North Area. The website of the Wenjin Book Award, the official micro-blog, WeChat and TikTok account simultaneously released the results and relevant information of the 17th Wenjin Book Award. The NLC mobile app launched selected books of previous Wenjin Book Awards for readers. The Library Society of China would mobilize all kinds of libraries at all levels and relevant institutions to hold tour exhibition of the 17th Wenjin Book Award online or offline, set up special bookshelves, and carry out publicity and promotion activities such as lectures or salons. China Literature ltd. would also launch a special area for Wenjin Book Award on QQ reading platform to provide free access to some of the award-winning and recommended books of Wenjin Book Award over the years for a limited time.
