On 28 June, as the rotating presidency of the BRICS Alliance of Libraries in 2022, the National Library of China (NLC) invited the directors of member libraries to attend the online seminar of the BRICS Alliance of Libraries. Xiong Yuanming, Director of the NLC, Director of the National Library of Brazil, Deputy Director of the Russian State Library, and Director of the National Library of India, attended the seminar and delivered a speech respectively. Chen Ying, Deputy Director of the NLC, presided over the conference.
Xiong Yuanming made a report named "From Digital Library to Smart Library—Taking the National Library of China as an Example", which introduced the background and necessity of the construction of Smart Library, the main objectives, overall framework and phased progress of the construction of "National Smart Library System" in Chinese library community. Other participants introduced the situation of their libraries, digital collections, digitalization and artificial intelligence applications.
Members of the Communication and Cooperation Committee of the Library Society of China were also invited to participate in the seminar and listen to the report.
This online seminar shared the new progress made by the alliance members in the library field in various countries in recent years, and further enhanced the influence of the BRICS Alliance of Libraries.
