Renamed the reading room as "International Organizations & Foreign Government Publications Reading Room".

Began to order microfiches published by Congressional Information Service (CIS).

Began to accept donated literatures from European Community (predecessor of the EU).

Along with the removal of the whole library, International Organizations and Foreign Government Publications Reading Room was moved from No. 7, Wenjin Street to No. 33, Zhongguancun Nandajie. On October 15, 1987 the reading room was officially opened to the public.

Trial opened up the online databases of Organization for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD).

Began to research on building the “Service Platform of International Organizations and Foreign Government Publications and Net Resources ".

“Creating Partnerships with Libraries in China: Workshop for United Nations Depository Librarians" training seminar held in National Library of China, which was the first training and research seminar for the Chinese depository librarians jointly hosted by the National Library of China and the United Nations Dag Hammarskjold Library. There were more than 60 library colleagues from 21 depository libraries in China who concerning about the depository library communities attended the workshop.

National Library was officially listed as the depository library of World Trade Organization (WTO), which officially marked the only WTO depository library of the Mainland China.

National Library was officially listed as the depository library of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which officially marked the only UNWTO depository library of the Mainland China.
