动态二:Out of the 'darkness': UN War Crimes Commission records hailed as vital international justice tool

1.The records of the UN War Crimes Commission, which was operational between 1943 and 1948 and played a vital role in preparation for the war crimes trials that followed the Second World War, were made open to the public this past July at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. For seventy years, most of the records of the landmark UN War Crimes Commission remained locked away. Active from 1943 until 1948, the Commission investigated and assisted national governments with the trials of World War II criminals from Europe and the Far East. At last, the release of the records can shine a light on the lessons to be learned from the horrors of war.

2.The archives of the War Crimes Commission contain evidence submitted by 17 Member States, including lists of alleged war criminals, files of charges brought against them, minutes of meetings, reports, correspondence, trial transcripts, and related documentation about the activities of the Commission, its committees, and individuals identified as alleged war criminals, including evidence compiled against them and records related to their prosecution by national tribunals.

The documents can also be browsed by “Legal Tools”:

  1. Public Financial Management and Its Emerging Architecture

"This timely volume helps us all better understand the bow wave of public financial and fiscal policy reforms that have been initiated by thoughtful practitioners in nations around the world. Thanks to the chapters by leading public finance analysts, we now have a comprehensive conceptual framework to assess the practices adopted by individual nations, often in the heat of a financial crisis."

Paul L. Posner, George Mason University

  2. Macrofinancial Linkages: Trends, Crises, and Policies

" This book offers a great collection of cutting edge theory, empirical analysis, and new data on the connections between the macroeconomy and the financial system. In light of the crisis, this book is especially relevant."

  3. Financial Crises: Causes, Consequences, and Policy Responses

" In well-written chapters, Financial Crises: Causes, Consequences, and Policy Responses covers every aspect of them: their characteristics; how they should be managed; their short-term effects; their long-term effects; how to avoid them in the first place; and, especially, how to restructure those overhanging debts. This volume superlatively encapsulates the work of many of the world's greatest experts on this topic of all topics."

George Akerlof, Nobel Laureate in Economics, 2001; University of California, Berkeley

动态四:Comprehensive Upgrade on Dag Hammarskjöld Library Website

We are excited to introduce the new Dag Hammarskjöld Library website in six official UN languages. The new Internet address (URL) is http://library.un.org It features our new identifier, expanded multilingual content, improved search, and a fresh new look. As part of the Library’s strategy to deliver more online content about the UN in all six official languages, we have added dozens of new Research Guides - in French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and Arabic - with more in the pipeline. In addition, we have increased the number of entries in our Ask DAG database of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the UN. There are now over 800 FAQs in French, Spanish, and English. The new website also brings together information about the United Nations libraries collections and services, with resources and tools to support our UN Depository Libraries, other partner libraries, and information centres around the world. Information about the UN Depository Library Programme can be found by clicking "UN Depository Libraries" from the "About" drop down menu:

The direct Internet address (URL) is https://library.un.org/content/united-nations-depository-library-programme - please add it to your favourites!

We would like to highlight the new searchable directory of depository libraries and UN Information Centres around the world which allows you to look up depository libraries by city, country, geographical region, and DL number (Library code). For now, the pages about the UN Depository Library Programme are only available in English, but we hope to be able to translate them into the other official UN languages in due course.
