动态2FAO New publications

1. 70 Years of FAO (1945-2015)

This book tells the story of these seven decades of the history of FAO, its protagonists and their endeavours. We have dug into the FAO archives to bring to light unpublished black and white images, which form a portfolio of evocative images of the early years of the Organization. The book is also a record of the Organization’s 10 success stories, for example, the eradication of bovine rinderpest; the Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources, a vital agreement to ensure the planet’s biodiversity, and the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, which is essential for the conservation of the marine ecosystem. The most important challenges facing FAO in the coming years are also discussed and summarized into two main themes: the eradication of hunger and malnutrition and what action we take to combat climate change. The publication brings the reader on a journey through the regional offices of FAO to look at its regional initiatives. As a neutral forum hosting numerous conferences and meetings every year, we wanted to open the doors of the FAO headquarters in Rome so that you could discover every corner in a virtual tour where we showcase the different rooms. This is, in short, a book for everyone, designed in an attractive way and written in simple language that is easily understood.

2.      The State of Food and Agriculture 2015 (SOFA): Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty

Despite significant progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals on poverty and hunger, almost a billion people still live in extreme poverty (less than $1.25 per person per day) and 795 million still suffer from chronic hunger. Much more will have to be done to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals on eradicating poverty and hunger by 2030. Most of the extreme poor live in rural areas of developing countries and depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. They are so poor and malnourished that their families live in a cycle of poverty that passes from generation to generation. Many developing countries are adopting a successful new strategy for breaking the cycle of rural poverty – combining social protection and agricultural development. Social protection measures such as cash benefits for widows and orphans and guaranteed public works employment for the poor can protect vulnerable people from the worst deprivation. It can allow households to increase and diversify their diets. It can also help them save and invest on their own farms and or start new businesses. Agricultural development programmes that support small family farms in accessing markets and managing risks can create employment opportunities that make these families more self-reliant and resilient. Social protection and agricultural development, working together, can break the cycle of rural poverty.

3.      Food Outlook. Biannual Report on Global Food Markets. October 2015

Global supplies and a strong US dollar are keeping international food prices under downward pressure. The outlook for the coming season is unlikely to diverge much from the current situation, but currency movements and macroeconomic developments may have important implications for markets gain in 2015/16. Against this backdrop, the world food import bill is forecast to reach a five-year low in 2015.

The IMF is a reliable source for data and statistics on global finance and economics. IMF statistical data delivers the most authoritative economic reporting covering the most countries from a single source.

1.      Exchange Rates and Trade

Annual Report on Exchange Arrangements and Exchange Restrictions

Published annually since 1950, the Annual Report on Exchange Arrangements and Exchange Restrictions (AREAER) tracks the exchange rate and trade regimes of all members of the International Monetary Fund (currently 188 countries) and three territories (Aruba, Hong Kong SAR, and Curaçao and Sint Maarten). The AREAER draws together information available to the IMF from a number of sources, including information collected during official IMF staff visits to member countries.

The AREAER is available in two formats: an online database and a printed overview with a CD-ROM.

动态5Chinese Renminbi to Be Included in IMF’s Special Drawing Right Basket

IMF Survey

December 1, 2015

  • Renminbi becomes fifth currency making up SDR basket
  • Inclusion is an important milestone in China’s global financial integration
  • Decision reflects growing international use and trading of renminbi

The Chinese currency renminbi (RMB) is to be included in the basket of currencies which make up the IMF’s Special Drawing Right, or SDR.

This is the first time in over 15 years that the list of currencies comprising the SDR has been altered. The change was agreed by the IMF’s Executive Board following a regular review of the currencies which make up the SDR basket.

"The Executive Board's decision to include the RMB in the SDR basket is an important milestone in the integration of the Chinese economy into the global financial system. It is also a recognition of the progress that the Chinese authorities have made in the past years in reforming China’s monetary and financial systems,” said the IMF’s Managing Director, Christine Lagarde.

“The continuation and deepening of these efforts will bring about a more robust international monetary and financial system, which, in turn will support the growth and stability of China and the global economy,” she added.
