In June 2011 the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has officially listed the National Library of China (NLC) into their depository libraries. Since then, NLC has formally become the only ICAO depository library in China.

　　As one of the UN specialized agencies, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has a long history and play a vital role in the field of civil aviation in the world. In 1944 China became its member countries at the beginning of its establishment. Since 1974, from the 21st to the 27th annual congress, China has been continuously elected to be the council member. As early as 1975, the National Library of China (named as Beijing Library at the time) was confirmed the documents depository qualifications in the letter that International Civil Aviation Organization former Secretary General Assad Kotaite sent to China Resident Representative Office on Council of ICAO.

　　The contact between the National Library of China and ICAO had been interrupted in 2002 and the quantity of publications we received decreased year by year. The absence of ICAO depository library in China, an important member state of the ICAO, is undoubtedly a huge loss regarding our information patrons, and must go against the research and development of civil aviation field in our country. Therefore, IOFG publications section of the Foreign Language Publications Acquisitions & Cataloguing Department has collected related material, looked for contact information and tried all kinds of communication channels. Finally the positive response came in April 2011 from the Chinese resident delegation in ICAO. On May 10, under the help of the delegation, the ICAO Secretary General has officially confirmed status of the National Library of China as one of ICAO depository libraries. In June, ICAO has officially added NLC in its depository library list on its official website.

　　The National Library of China will continue to fulfill the duty of national library and to provide perfect service to Chinese readers. In the future, the Foreign Language Publications Acquisitions & Cataloguing Department will complete all related work of ICAO deposit literatures. The National library of China continues to be the center in China disseminating information and knowledge about ICAO. That helps to build a bridge of exchanging information between ICAO and Chinese readers.
