In commemoration of International Women ́s Day in 2021, the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Carib-bean (UNESCO IESALC) developed and launched a global study on the participation of women in higher education (HE). The study covered all UN-ESCO regions and gathered data on key issues for the higher education sector, including female enrollment, female participation in STEM, female participation in leadership positions, and female research performance. In all regions, except for Sub-Saharan Africa, women are the main benefi-ciaries of access to higher education. This report gives the results of the assessment, and includes interesting data that helps us to understand the higher education landscape in the selected countries in Africa.
