Women’sparticipation inhigher education institutions is ahighly debated topic, particularly taking  into  account  the  increasing  number  of womenattending  tertiary  education worldwide. While women’saccess to HEIs has indeed expanded in many countries,their full academic  participation  in HEIsremain  an  area  of  concern. The  assessment  ofthis phenomenon, particularly in a pandemic period, is of great importance. To this end, and with a view to the celebration of the 2021 International Women ́s Day, this report gives apreliminaryoverview of some trends and patterns regarding women’sparticipation inHE globally, including the main disparitieswhich have hindered this participation.
