In this report, we synthesize lessons learned from household energy policies implemented to increase access to clean household fuels and technologies. We present key lessons on how policies can lead to clean household energy adoption and overall improvement of indoor air quality, as well as an analysis of key contextual factors that contribute to policy successes and failures. Many of the policies reviewed for this synthesis appear in WHO’s Household Energy Policy Repository. They consist of regional, national and sub-national government-led action intended to influence household energy access. The synthesis reviews the role that these policies play in furthering household energy goals and identifies factors that contribute to their success.
