The NLC promotes Tibetan ancient books conservation in cooperation with social institution


On 16 December, the signing ceremony of the cooperation framework agreement on the conservation of Tibetan ancient books between the National Library of China (NLC) and Beijing Apple Charity Foundation (BACF) was held in the NLC. Rao Quan, Director of the NLC, Ms. Wang Qiuyang, founder of BACF, and Professor Gao Xiqing, Honorary Director of BACF, attended the signing ceremony. Zhang Zhiqing, Deputy Director of the NLC, and Ma Shuai, Secretary General of BACF, signed the agreement. Leaders of relevant departments of the NLC and BACF attended the signing ceremony.

Rao Quan said that Tibetan ancient books had a long history and were an important part of Chinese culture. Strengthening Tibetan ancient books conservation, especially ancient books conservation work in Tibet Autonomous Region, was an important part of inheriting excellent traditional culture, maintaining national unity and safeguarding national culture security. Since Chinese Ancient Books Preservation Plan was implemented in 2007, China National Center for Preservation & Conservation of Ancient Books had been actively supporting and promoting ancient books preservation and conservation in Tibet Autonomous Region, and had made great progress in general survey of ancient books, directory review, ancient books restoration, ancient books digitalization, talents cultivation, promotion of ancient books, and so on. In recent years, the Party and the government had vigorously supported and encouraged the participation of social institutions and established a diversified input mechanism. The cooperation between the NLC and BACF was an important measure to jointly promote Tibetan ancient books conservation, which responded to the call of the state and attracted social institutions. It was hoped that both sides could work together to do a good job in Tibetan ancient books conservation.

Wang Qiuyang said that since its establishment in 2003, BACF had been carrying out charity projects in education, medical care, culture, environmental protection and other fields in Ali Region of Tibet. Over the years, the foundation had won praise from all walks of life with solid and effective project development, detailed management, transparent and rigorous finance, and forward-looking and enterprising vision. The NLC was an important base for inheriting and carrying forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture, assumed the responsibility of organizing national ancient books conservation. We had a common cultural ideal and mission, hoped that both sides could play their respective resource advantages and jointly promote the Tibetan ancient books conservation.

According to the agreement, both sides would work together in the preservation, conservation, restoration, publication, digitization, publicity and promotion of ancient books in Tibet Autonomous Region, so as to jointly promote the conservation and utilization of Tibetan ancient books.

After the ceremony, the delegation of BACF visited the Exhibition on the Protection and Inheritance of Chinese Traditional Cultural Classics.
