Chen Ying, the NLC Deputy Director, meets with the cultural counsellor in Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in China


On 5 December, Chen Ying, Deputy Director of the National Library of China (NLC), met with Mr. Vafaei, the cultural counsellor in Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in China.

Chen Ying extended welcome to Mr. Vafaei, and then she said that both China and Iran were ancient civilizations, which had created brilliant culture and made important contributions to world civilization. Chen Ying introduced the NLC's general situation to the guest, and reviewed exchange and cooperation between the NLC and the National Library and Archives of Islamic Republic of Iran (NLAI) in recent years.

Mr. Vafaei showed thanks for Chen Ying's warm reception and detailed introduction. He said that the library construction was also an important part of Iran's national cultural construction. The NLAI was open to the public 24 hours every day, and provided special research rooms for researchers to encourage and promote the nationwide reading.

Mr. Vafaei said that in recent years, frequent high-level visits between China and Iran and increased economic and trade contacts had laid solid foundation for friendly exchanges between the two countries. He hoped to go on deepening and promoting cooperation and exchanges between Iran and China in the cultural and library fields, and actively inquired about the NLC's relevant international cooperation projects in line with the Belt and Road Initiative.

Chen Ying introduced the establishment background and development plan of "Silk Road International Library Alliance" to Mr. Vafaei, and hoped that the NLAI could join the alliance, so as to promote the extensive exchange and cooperation in the library field between the two libraries under the framework of the alliance mechanism in the future. Mr. Vafaei thanked Chen Ying for her sincere invitation and said that he would actively promote the NLAI to join the alliance.

After the meeting, Mr. Vafaei visited the Exhibition on the Protection and Inheritance of Chinese Traditional Cultural Classics.
