Rao Quan, NLC director, meets with Japanese Publishing Friendship Visiting-China Delegation


On 19 September, Rao Quan, Director of the National Library of China (NLC), met with the 40th Japanese Publishing Friendship Visiting-China Delegation, including 12 people, led by Akira Hirabayashi, President of Nippon Shuppan Hanbai Inc. (hereinafter referred to as NIPPAN).

Rao Quan introduced the latest development of the NLC, reviewed the history of cooperation between the NLC and NIPPAN, expressed appreciation for the efforts of NIPPAN and Japanese publishers to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries, and hoped that the two sides would continue to strengthen cooperation on the basis of adapting to the development of the times, and promote mutual understanding between people of the two countries through cultural exchanges. Akira Hirabayashi said that he was willing to play the roles of NIPPAN, and continue to work together with Japanese publishers to do well this significant cultural exchange project. After the interview, the delegation visited the NLC Japanese Publications Reading Room and the National Museum of Classic Books.

In the beginning of 1980s, the NLC and NIPPAN achieved a friendly agreement on opening Japanese Publications Reading Room in the NLC. According to the agreement, NIPPAN donated about 8,000 newly published Japanese books to the NLC every year, enriching the NLC's collections.
