The launching ceremony of traditional Chinese books sharing conference is successfully held in Qufu


On 6 August, the launching ceremony of traditional Chinese books sharing conference was successfully held in the Confucius Museum, Qufu. This activity was sponsored by the National Library of China (China National Center for Preservation & Conservation of Ancient Books), organized by the Confucius Museum and Shandong Ancient Books Preservation & Conservation Center, and co-organized by CCTV.com and Juvenile Branch of (National) Education Calligraphy and Painting Association. Leaders and experts from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Library of China (NLC), Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Shandong Library, Jining Municipal Government, Qufu Municipal Government, the Confucius Institute, the Confucius Museum, and so on, and thousands of people attended the activity.

In the morning, the leaders and guests came to the Temple of Confucius, and visited the opening ceremony of the Temple of Confucius. In the following, a sacrificial ceremony for Confucius was held in front of the Dacheng Dian. People expressed their admiration and remembrance for the ancient sage by various manners. In the north side of Yucui Gate, Kong Xianglin, former Deputy Director of the Confucius Institute, introduced the literary quotation of "Lu Bi Cang Shu", and analyzed the connotation of "Think of the source when drinking water". There was a well in Confucius Former Residence, and the water was very clear, which was known as "Holy Water". The people drank the well water, showing the meaning of "Think of the source when drinking water".

In the morning, the launching ceremony of the first traditional Chinese books sharing conference was held in the Confucius Museum, which was hosted by Kong Deping, Director of the Confucius Museum. Rao Quan, Director of the NLC and China National Center for Preservation & Conservation of Ancient Books, Li Huolin, First-class Inspector of Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and Zhang Benyi, former Director of Dalian Library, delivered a speech respectively. In his speech, Rao Quan said, China had a tradition of opening and drying books on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month since ancient times, which was originally to protect ancient books, and then had become China's unique and mellow book culture in the development of history. The NLC promoted "traditional Chinese books sharing conference" in the nationwide, which aimed to make public and private collectors and the general public to share knowledge of ancient books, spread ideas of loving and caring for books, carry forward traditional Chinese classics preservation tradition, let the words in ancient books come alive, let the truth, the good and the beautiful in ancient books be deeply rooted in people's hearts, and gradually make it become a popular book sharing festival through colorful activities such as sharing national treasures, sharing classics, sharing techniques, sharing traditions, and so on.

At the ceremony, Zhang Benyi presented The Essay on the Inheritance of the NLC Ancient Classics by his own handwriting to the NLC. The National Library of China Publishing House issued three new books on site, i.e. Rare Edition of Chinese Ancient Books Series ▪ the Confucius Museum Volume, and Qianlong Yu Ding Shi Jing—Xiao Jing and Sheng Men Li Le Zhi collected by the Confucius Museum, and donated 30 titles of 337 volumes of books to the Confucius Museum, such as The 100 Classic Books of Chinese Traditional Culture, Basic Classics of Chinese Studies Series, and so on.

In the afternoon, in the book sharing salon, many experts and scholars got together, including Lian Ji, former Director of Chinese National Academy of Arts, Zhang Zhiqing, Deputy Director of the NLC and Deputy Director of China National Center for Preservation & Conservation of Ancient Books, Zhang Benyi, former Director of Dalian Library, Wei Li, famous book collector, Yang Zhaoming, Director of the Confucius Institute, Kong Xianglin, former Deputy Director of the Confucius Institute, Chen Hongyan, Deputy Director of the NLC Ancient Books Library, Ji Yaping, research librarian of the NLC Ancient Books Library, Hu Yuqing, ancient books restoration expert, Yang Jinquan, Deputy Director of the Confucius Museum, and so on, and held discussions around the tradition and allusions of sharing books, the historical wisdom and spiritual value contained in Confucian classics, the tablet inscriptions in Qufu, and so on. The CCTV.com made a video for the book salon, which was broadcast online on 7 August.

Through TV and Internet, people could also enjoy the treasures of the Confucius Museum, as well as the activities of sharing national treasures, classics and skills of the NLC and more than ten provincial libraries. In September, the National Museum of Classic Books would hold the Exhibition on Traditional Chinese Classics Preservation and Inheritance, which would display more than 350 pieces of precious ancient books from more than 90 institutions and individuals across the country, pushing this year's book sharing festival to a new climax.
