Wang Dongbo, Deputy Director of the NLC, meets with First Assistant Secretary of the Department of Communications and the Arts of the Australian Government


On the morning of 5 December, Wang Dongbo, Deputy Director of the National Library of China (NLC), met with Stephen Arnott, First Assistant Secretary of the Department of Communications and the Arts of the Australian Government, and his delegation.

Wang Dongbo extended warm welcome to Stephen Arnott and his delegation, introduced basic information and recent achievements of the NLC, reviewed the exchange between the NLC and the National Library of Australia (NLA). He hoped that the two National Libraries would conduct practical collaboration under the framework of the MoU on cooperation as well as jointly promoted business communication and development in Sino-Australian library community.

Stephen Arnott highly appreciated and thanked the NLC for its untiring endeavors and significant contributions for promoting Australian-Sino cultural exchange and cooperation in library community. He said that the exhibition Celestial Empire: Life in China 1644-1911 co-hosted by the NLC and the National Library of Australia in 2016 was widely acclaimed in Australia; therefore, he hoped that more selected exhibitions which demonstrate both Chinese and Australian cultural heritage and achievements of civilizations would be co-curated with the NLC. In addition, Stephen Arnott also enquired basic information of the “Silk Road International Library Alliance”.

After the meeting, Stephen Arnott and his delegation visited the National Museum of Classic Books and Reading Rooms at the NLC North Area.
