Rao Quan, Director of the NLC, meets with Japanese Publishing Friendship Visiting-China Delegation


On 10 October, Rao Quan, Director of the National Library of China (NLC), met with the 39th Japanese Publishing Friendship Visiting-China Delegation composed of 12 members, led by Akira Hirabayashi, president of Nippon Shuppan Hanbai Inc. (hereinafter referred as NIPPAN). Sun Yigang, deputy director of the NLC, was also present.

Rao Quan reviewed the more than 30 years’ cooperation history between the NLC and NIPPAN, expressed appreciation for the efforts of NIPPAN and Japanese publishers to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries. He also hoped that both parties could expand cooperation in publishing and other areas on basis of maintaining existing collaboration, push forward mutual understanding between people of the two countries through cultural exchanges. Akira Hirabayashi expressed that NIPPAN would be willing to work with publishers in Japan continuously, to do well this cultural exchange project with positive significance. After the meeting, the delegation visited Japanese Publications Reading Room of the NLC.

The NLC reached an amicable agreement with NIPPAN in early 1980’s, and opened the Japanese Publications Reading Room. The collection of the NLC has enriched by NIPPAN sending about 8000 latest-published Japanese books annually. Through years of cooperation and communication between the two parties, the mutual understanding in Chinese and Japanese cultural circles has promoted actively.
