Wei Dawei, NLC deputy director, heads a delegation to Japan


From 12 June to 16 June, a 5-person delegation of the National Library of China (NLC), led by Wei Dawei, NLC deputy director, visited Japan.

 

 
During visiting Japan, Wei Dawei, NLC deputy director, signed the 8th cooperation agreement with Akira Hirabayashi, president of Nippon Shuppan Hanbai Inc. (hereinafter referred to as NIPPAN) on behalf of the NLC, and attended the press conference. After the conference, Wei Dawei, NLC deputy director, attended publishers appreciation event sponsored by the NLC and NIPPAN. Chen Zheng, cultural counselor of Chinese Embassy in Japan, Shi Yongjing, director of Tokyo China Cultural Center, representatives of Japanese publishers, and so on, attended the activity.


Since 1982, the NLC reached a cooperation agreement with NIPPAN on establishing Japanese Publications Reading Room in the NLC. According to the cooperation agreement, NIPPAN donates 8,000-10,000 newly published Japanese books to the NLC every year. These books provide conveniences for Chinese readers to learn about Japan.

The delegation visited the National Diet Library (NDL), and held a formal talk with Sawako Hanyu, the new librarian of the NDL. Both sides reviewed the exchange history in recent years, and expressed their willingness to further strengthen cooperation. After the meeting, the delegation systematically surveyed the NDL digital library construction situation. Besides, the delegation visited Hokkaido University Library, Sapporo Central Library, and so on, which further strengthened the contacts with Japanese library community.
