The NLC National Strategic Depository of Document Preservation Project Architecture Design Scheme is announced


On 22 May, the signing ceremony of the Agreement on National Strategic Depository of Document Preservation Project Architecture Design between the National Library of China (NLC) and China Architecture Design Group (CADG) was held in the NLC. Cui Kai, CADG Honorary Director and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Han Yongjin, NLC Director, attended the ceremony and addressed a speech respectively. Wei Dawei, NLC Deputy Director, Sun Yigang, NLC Deputy Director, Ma Hai, CADG Deputy General Manager, Zhao Pengfei, CADG project director, attended the signing ceremony.


Chende County, Chengde City, Hebei Province is selected as the location of the NLC National Strategic Depository of Document Preservation Project, which covers an area of 10.17 hectares, with a total construction area of about 67,000 square meters. Its main functions include storage area, digital resources storage and disaster recovery center, business processing area, supporting facilities. Architecture scheme design is the important part of the project construction, and is the key link in the early process. During the project design bidding, the NLC carries out the instructions of the Ministry of Culture, i.e. "scientific design, scientific reasoning, scientific scheme compilation, constructing high quality and clean project", and through multiple stages of prequalification, design scheme, technical proposal collection and public bidding, finally design scheme of the CADG, led by academician Cui Kai, is recognized by experts and wins the bidding.

In the ceremony, Han Yongjin said the signing of agreement on architecture design was an important milestone in the construction of National Strategic Depository of Document Preservation Project, and a key point in the recent work of the project. The later task remained arduous. He hoped that both sides keep the mission in mind, make persistent efforts, finish related work according to the schedule, and make National Strategic Depository of Document Preservation Project become a classic project and a centennial project.

National Strategic Depository of Document Preservation Project assumes the responsibility of remote backup and storage of national important documents and digital resource disaster recovery storage, grantees national culture security and long-term development, and is a national key cultural project which comprehensively protects and inherits national culture heritage. This project receives great attention and support of the leadership of the central government and the Ministry of Culture, and has been included into the 13th Five-year Plan Outline, "Chinese excellent traditional culture inheritance development project", and so on. After this project is completed, the NLC will form a layout of "Three Premises in Two Cities", i.e. Beijing Baishi Bridge and Wenjin Street, and National Strategic Depository of Document Preservation in Chengde.
