At 9 o'clock of 28 January (the first day of Chinese Lunar New Year), Han Yongjin, the National Library of China (NLC) director, Wei Dawei, NLC deputy director, Zhang Zhiqing, NLC deputy director, and Wang Jun, NLC deputy director, Wang Dongbo, NLC director assistant, and some directors of the NLC departments and divisions awaited the first group of readers of the new year in the hall of the 2nd floor, NLC North Area, extending New Year greetings and presenting prize-winning books of the 11th Wenjin Book Award to the first three readers.
During the Spring Festival 2017, the NLC held various activities. In the NLC North Area, in the Experience Area of Digital Library, based on great amount of E-books of Digital Library Reading Platform, the NLC selected E-books about Spring Festival couplets and folk customs for readers. Meanwhile, readers could experience virtual reality interaction of digital culture; readers could guess lantern riddles in information desk of Chinese Books Reading Area, 2nd floor, and Chinese Books Loan Services Area. The questions covered Chinese traditional culture, folk customs, the NLC collections and services. 40 questions were prepared for each day; in Information Commons, readers could experience "Knowledge Sharing" and the pleasure of treasure hunting of digital resources. In the NLC South Area, Foreign Publications Reading Room No.1 set up Best-selling Books Reading Promotion Exhibition Area, presenting books in the Best-Seller Lists of New York Times of previous two years; in the Comprehensive Reading Room, the NLC delivered Chinese books about festivals and folk customs for readers through exhibition boards, quizzes about library knowledge, and so on.
The NLC Children's Library held handwork activity, told stories about Spring Festival, broadcast children's films, and so on, which made children and their parents spend a happy and rich Spring Festival in the NLC. The NLC went on holding "Enjoy E-Reading in Spring Festival" activity in libraries at various levels in the nationwide. Readers could take part in the interactive activities through mobile phones by focusing on WeChat Public Account of Digital Library Promotion Project, such as electronic-talking greeting cards, funny crossing games, online photograph collecting with prize, and so on.
